How good is cinnamon for your health? Cinnamon is one of the most effective spices for lowering blood sugar levels. That’s why it is a very popular ingredient in Paleo desserts.
One metastudy on cinnamon involved looking at its blood sugar effects on Type 2 diabetics in eight clinical trials. The cinnamon – taken as whole cinnamon or cinnamon extract lowered fasting blood glucose. So including cinnamon-y low carb and keto desserts is a win-win for helping you to stay in fat burning mode.
They didn’t report on whether or not the participants were eating keto desserts or paleo desserts. The cinnamon successfully worked although it may not have been enough to prevent the diabetics from getting off medication.
In another metastudy of 543 patients, doses of 120 mg of cinnamon up to 6000 mg per day for 4 to 18 weeks reduced the fasting blood sugar levels about 24 mg.
Triglycerides were lowered about 30 mg/dL; total cholesterol lowered by about 16 mg/dL, and HDL levels increased about 1.66 mg/dL. Hemoglobin A1c levels were unchanged. Cinnamon can help!
