Breyers Carb Smart Ice Cream

You can’t overlook peanut brittle when you’re thinking about the low carb desserts (keto desserts and Paleo desserts) you’re going to incorporate into your diet. Nuts have a distinct place in the diet of most cultures – and for good reasons. Nuts provide a good source of calories, and they are generally an excellent source of fat. Your body needs fat to make hormones.

In fact, we are finding now that those who went on a low fat diet for several years end up with hormonal problems later on down the road. It’s odd that many people in their 20s and 30s are coming up with low testosterone or low estrogen levels (men and women respectively) but upon reviewing why this is happening, it’s easy to see a connection between eating a low fat diet and low levels of hormones.

Nuts also serve a purpose in lowering cholesterol levels. You might think that it’s impossible to eat a fat food and then have lower levels of cholesterol as a result, but it’s true. It all depends on the type of fat eaten. Either it’s a healthy fat food or it’s not. The unhealthy fat foods are the ones that raise the cholesterol levels.

There’s one other thing you should know about nuts that people always seem to get wrong. It’s that nuts are really not a good protein source. They’re a source of fat more than protein. The little 2-3 grams protein in nuts compared to the 7-9 grams fat pales in comparison. So don’t figure that you really don’t need much protein in your diet just because you are eating nuts and other fats. It doesn’t work like that.
