But there’s something you should know. Some cream cheeses on the market may not be low carbohydrate. And if they are not, they won’t suit you on your ketogenic diet. So do be careful when selecting your cream cheese. For one, pick a full-fat cream cheese—not a low carb or low-fat one—these often have added sugars to make them taste good.

Preservative Free & Sugar Free Desserts: How to Make Keto Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 12 oz. full fat Philadelphia Cream Cheese
  • 1 stick salted butter (8 tablespoons)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • Stevia drops to taste (start with 10)

Instructions 

You’ll need your hand mixer for this recipe.

  1. Take the cream cheese and stick of butter out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for a few hours until softened.
  2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese with your hand mixer. Your goal here is to increase the volume of it and make it smooth.
  3. Next add your stevia drops and vanilla extract. With your hand mixer again, beat the cream cheese until the mixture is lightening up significantly.
  4. Add the stick of softened butter. Beat again until thoroughly whipped.
  5. Taste the mixture. Do you need to add more sweetener? If so, add stevia by only two drops at a time and mix briefly for only 15 seconds. Then re-taste and see if you need more. (Everyone has a different intensity of sweetness that is preferred by their sweet tooth.)
  6. When the taste is perfect to match your needs, refrigerate the cream cheese frosting.
  7. When you need the frosting to top cupcakes or cakes or brownies, get out your hand mixer and beat the mixture prior to using the frosting. Make it light and fluffy. Then spread on top of the cake or brownie.
